History of Nuance Software
Nuance Software was founded in 1994 by Paul Ricci, Mike Cohen and Bill Lynch. The company’s first product was Dragon Speech Recognition software, which allowed users to dictate into their computers instead of typing.
In 1997 Nuance acquired Nuance Communications (formerly ScanSoft), a leading provider of speech recognition solutions for business applications such as call centers and customer service departments. In 2004 Nuance acquired Dictaphone Corporation, which included its Dragon Medical dictation software line along with a large library of clinical documentation templates used by medical professionals across the world today.
Nuance went public on NASDAQ under ticker symbol NUAN in 2005; it trades on the New York Stock Exchange today under ticker symbol NUAN
